1st Doctor's Visit

We had our first appt with the "at risk" obgyn at UAB today. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. The ultrasound confirmed that I am 8 weeks 3 days. The baby's (singular, not plural) heart rate is a strong 168. My due date is 12/07; however I will be induced at 39 weeks so he/she should be here a little before then. One of my fears was that I would have to have a c-section so that the bleeding would be more controlled. The doctor told me just the opposite; they do not want me to have a c-section... yay! I will switch from Lovenox to Heparin at 36 weeks so that when/if I go into labor on my own, I can still get an epidural (the lovenox takes about 3 times longer to get out of my system, so I would be at risk of not being able to get the epidural in time. Heparin takes about 8 hours to get out of my system). Another big concern of ours was that the baby would be harmed because of my taking Coumadin before realizing I was pregnant. The doctor said that there is a really good chance the baby is perfectly healthy because I stopped taking the Coumadin as soon as I found out I was expecting (at about 4 weeks-the earlier the better). We'll know for sure in about 10 weeks when I have a more detailed ultrasound if there are any abnormalities (not that anything like that would change anything, this baby is a precious life whether or not any health issues arise).

God is sovereign in the good and the bad. We will praise Him no matter what the outcome of this pregnancy is. For now, it appears the baby is healthy and we thank Him for that :)
